Hello! I’m Carmen and this is my first time in Vermont 🙂 Today is Day One of camp! I began in (surprise) the kitchen today (I have a full kitchen work-trade). Breakfast was pancakes and we discovered that the griddle was not, in fact, cleaned when the kitchen flooded with smoke. We opened the windows and turned on the fans, so crisis averted!
I helped make “self-saucing pudding” (exacltly what it sounds like, yet it took us until it was finsihed to understand) after dinner, during the staff talent show, which can include anything from singing to wheel-throwing blindfolded.
But, contrarty to what some people say (you know who you are), I don’t spend all my time in the kitchen. There is, of course, morning and evening meetings and advisee groups, but there are many other events to enjoy, like workshops (begining tomorrow), swimming, or hiking. This afternoon, I sat in the field while Aubrie led games, including Ninja, Ultimate Tag, and Bus Stop.
But I really love my time in the kitchen and, of course, camp in general. I know my camp experience is very different than most, but I’m okay with that and happy with what I do get to experience; dancing to songs, coordinating three different versions of the same dessert, cooking three different versions of eggs while debating if consensual cannibalism is vegan.
You know, normal things.
🙂
I’m so happy to be here, excited for the coming days, and thrilled for whatever future camp sessions bring. <3
