Today is the second day l’ve been here this year, and I’m starting to get into it again. The weather is chillier than last year, which can be cold but is also invigorating. Running across the field in the wind and gray is one of the best feelings.

It’s a weird experience being here during these few days, since I’m a camper who arrived early with family who’s on staff. It’s oddly quiet and chill, yet busy and chaotic. It’s nice to be able to sit and relax in the woods and nap with the sound of the creek outside my cabin, particularly knowing that during these few days that’s a luxury around here.

Luckily I’m never bored. I like to say I’m the junior junior staffer. I don’t particularly have jobs or responsibilities but l’ve now been deemed one of them, and will be drafted to go and do miscellaneous jobs all over the site. I’ve inventoried and set up cabins, set up the things around the Kybos (composting toilets), and a lot of other random little things. One of the really fun tasks I’m working on today is setting up the in camp mail system, the Clothespins. I’ve just been running up and down hills, across the field, and everywhere all day and I love it!

It honestly feels amazing to be here and just appreciate the space, and not be worried about missing something fun because I’m chilling and taking time for myself. I love all the tasks I get to do, and the feeling of accomplishment and people trusting me to be here and do setup without responsibility exactly. It makes me feel so much more a part of this. Of camp, and the staff, and all of it. I’m so glad I’m getting this experience. I feel so special and appreciative to get the chance to be here and see this backstage, so to speak. And to have the chance to set up and have a say and give opinions on what should be where, what works, what we should change, etc.

Since it’s only staff here so far, l’ve also been getting to talk to all of them a lot more than often during the session and I love it. They’re so cool and nice! It’s so fun to talk about literally anything. They’re funny and I love their jokes, but they can also be serious and have deep intellectual conversations and I love that.
