Hi! I’m Avery, a lot of people here call me Ava. It’s my first time here in Vermont but I’ve been to the Oregon session twice before! On arrival day I was super excited to see the friends I had already met, I slept in the middle of the field with my best friends from Oregon and some new ones I met. It was a cold night. I think I was the first one up in the whole camp.
I hardly slept but I was so excited for the first official day. I spent my morning exploring this beautiful campsite, I was silent as a mouse, it was so peaceful.
For breakfast we had the NBTSC classic and my favorite meal: potatoes, eggs, and oatmeal.
I’m in Sydney Moyer’s Advisee group, it’s mostly new campers I don’t know as well as some of my best friends from previous sessions, but I’m super excited to get to know everyone in my group.
Near the end of Advisee time, I helped run a fun improv game where we just threw imaginary objects at each other, it was so much fun but it quickly devolved into chaos. I got a “Knife” thrown into my chest, and I then quickly died.
Moving on… Lunch was so delicious, we had grilled cheese and tomato soup. I had a long conversation with Jr staffer Ruben about our favorite cuisines from around the world, we agreed we both love homemade focaccia crust pizza, how could you not? I’m a work-trader so before dinner me and the other work-traders were assigned our jobs. I wash dishes before and after dinner.
Later that night, after the long evening meeting I won’t get into here, I washed dishes and talked with my friends while listening to loud music and voluntarily scrubbing pots and pans for hours… It was so much fun. I decided that it’d be a good idea for me to get some quality sleep, so I slept on the porch instead of the ground.

Starting the blog strong! Thanks for kicking if off even without me there to recruit, encourage, and nudge campers to contribute. Wish I was with you all! Have fun and hug everyone for Driver J. at Camp Myrtlewood NBTSC!
