The prom

At most sessions, we have an unschoolers' prom the next-to-last night of camp. People wear all kinds of stuff, from sweaty camp T-shirts to exquisite hand-sewn renaissance dresses to fabulous drag costumes assembled from borrowed stuff to Halloween costumes to vintage tuxedos to ball gowns made of garbage bags.

You are also welcome to bring music to share. Usually a staff DJ or a committee makes final decisions about what to play during the evening – shooting for a great dance mix that will please as many people as possible as much of the time as possible – but if possible, they will include some of your dance music if you bring it on a CD or an ipod or MP3 player. As with all your stuff, label CDs and ipods with your name.  (And be careful with valuable stuff like ipods; unfortunately, despite the fact that in most respects NBTSC is generally a very safe and secure place, we have had theft.)

(Vermont Session 2 is the session where we don't have a prom exactly -- but we do have a dance party on the last nght, after the closing ceremony. While it isn't quite the all-out affair that the prom can be, much of the same stuff applies: if you want to, bring something fun to wear and bring your favorite dance music to share.)
