If You're Going to Both Oregon Sessions, or Both Vermont Sessions...

for everybody

We hugely appreciate all the die-hard NBTSC fans who attend more than one session each year--or any year! We love having you around for more than a week at a time.

However, we nevertheless encourage you to think twice before signing up for more than one session, especially back-to-back (same location). Sometimes too much of a good thing is too much--too much drama, too much intensity, too many new people, too many choices facing you every day. And not enough sleep and not enough family and not enough of your familiar cozy bed and your familiar favorite foods. Especially if this is your first time at NBTSC, then unless you've already participated in intense camps, trips, long retreats, or other away-from-home-and-family events, we recommend you start with just one.

Oregon

Some years back, we came up with a new idea during our closing staff meeting, in which we were all lamenting (as we had every year for a long time) the fact that a ton of people were sick at the beginning of second session, and how unpleasant that was for everyone, particularly the new campers just arriving and encountering a sniffling, low-energy group. So, ever since that time, we do have specific expectations for people coming to both sessions, regarding what they do during the 3 days in between. We ask that you either

Staying at Camp Myrtlewood is an option available to up to 40 campers who are seriously committed to rest and relaxation. In 2009 we will have a required bedtime. "Tween" is typically a relaxed, sweet interlude during which friendships deepen, guitar chords float on afternoon heat waves, and journal entries proliferate. But we do need you to cooperate with our expectations, which--at least in the bedtime department--are stricter than during NBTSC sessions. (Also, because there are relatively few people to get all the work done, you have more daily chores than during a camp session--about 6 hours spread out over the 3-and-a-half days. This helps ensure that meals get served, dishes get washed, and camp is organized and beautiful when Session 2 campers arrive.) The fee for staying at Camp Myrtlewood during this time is $90, which includes all your basic needs--meals, lodging, and laundry.

Vermont

2009 is our first time hosting 2 east coast sessions. This year, we can't host campers between sessions--perhaps, if there is interest, in the future we can arrange this. Meanwhile: there's a four-and-a-half day break between sessions, so we figure most of you will want to return home or to the home of another camper. As in Oregon, we expect you to get plenty of rest so that you return bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to be an integral part of the first-ever NBTSC wild card week.
